I finished the second draft of The Last Dreams of Xothra and turned it into my writers group here in Glasgow. I’ve had short stories critiqued in the past, and it’s always a bit nerve-racking to put yourself out there, but having something critiqued that has been so much of your life for so long brings the nervousness to a whole new level. My conscious mind wants the novel to be torn apart so that it can become stronger, but my subconscious wants it be showered in roses. Luckily for me, and the strength of Glasgow Science Fiction Writers Circle, is that there will be very few roses. The next draft will be like bull.
While awaiting feedback, I’ve been polishing my query letter, outlining Xothra book two (yes, there is a book two), and I finally have a bit of time to work on the short stories that have been bouncing around in my head. I’ve put quite a bit of time into getting this here website in order, and I’m now working on building a social media presence. I have a fun social media project that I’m going to be launching in the near future on Twitter, so stay tuned!
I came across Tim Clare’s podcast, My Couch to 80k Writing Boot Camp, and have found it very useful for getting back into the swing of things. I’ve done very little writing of new material lately, as I’ve been busy editing, and this podcast has been perfect. Granted, I’m using the exercises more for a warm up than their intended purpose, but for anyone that is struggling to write everyday, I highly recommend you check them out.
In Other News:
I recently returned from a week in Paris (trip report coming soon) and at the end of the month I’ll be going to Alicante, Spain. My wife and I are gearing up to move back to the United States, and I’m super excited to get started on Audiobook Narration when we return. Oh, and I’ve started bullet journaling (more at that later).
Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions or comments, please send them my way!
